This trail passes below the steep cliffs of Tunnel Mountain and meanders along the Bow River. As the final section climbs, views open across the Bow Valley to Mount Rundle. It has many exposed roots and a few steep climbs and descents, with steps at the trailhead and 1 km from Surprise Corner.
It is 4.4 km one way, to the Hoodoos viewpoint. In summer, Roam route 2 is an easy way back to town from nearby Tunnel Mountain Campground.
It starts at Surprise Corner, at the end of Buffalo Street, a 20-minute (1.6 km) walk from downtown Banff. The other end is the Hoodoos Viewpoint and Day-use Area on Tunnel Mountain Road, 4 km northeast of downtown.

Most of the year. In winter and spring it can be icy: wear shoes with good grip.
This is bear country. Hike in a group, make noise, carry bear spray within reach and know how to use it. Keep at least 100 m from any bear.
