An easy, flat stroll along the shore of Maligne Lake. In its first kilometre it passes Curly Phillips's historic boathouse and reaches a viewpoint with panels about Mary Schäffer, the explorer who reached the lake in 1908 using a map drawn for her by Samson Beaver of the Stoney Nation.
It then leaves the shore and loops back to the parking lot through lichen-rich pine, spruce and subalpine fir. The first section is paved.
Take the Maligne Road, which leaves Highway 16 1.9 km east of Jasper; the lake is at road's end, 47 km from town. Turn in at the first parking lot, walk down to the shore and follow the paved trail left. There are no gas stations on this road.
