Canmore's landmark: the summit you see from all over town. The trail climbs 810 m in just 3.9 km (7.8 km return), so it's short but very steep. Since 2019 it has handrails, ladder staircases and many rock steps.
Alberta Parks maintains the trail to the saddle (3.5 km). The last 400 m and 103 m of elevation to the summit are unmaintained and cross loose, rocky terrain. From the top you see the whole Bow Valley with Canmore below.
From Canmore, take Spray Lakes Road (Highway 742) past the Canmore Nordic Centre; it's about 10 minutes and 5.3 km from the Nordic Centre to the Goat Creek Day Use Area parking lot. Parking in Kananaskis requires a Kananaskis Conservation Pass.

Alberta Parks lists it for summer and winter. In winter the trail gets icy: bring microspikes and check conditions before you go.
This is bear country: carry bear spray, make noise and check the Alberta Parks advisories for Bow Valley Wildland before you go.
