Two shallow, aquamarine lakes just minutes from Canmore. This is the interpretive route: 1.9 km one way (3.8 km return) with about 125 m of elevation gain. It climbs gently through forest, then gets very steep, with views of a waterfall and the town of Canmore. Signs tell the story of Lawrence Grassi, who built the original trail.
About 100 m from the trailhead the path splits: one way is the harder interpretive route, the other is Grassi Lakes Upper, an easier option on a wide road. The cliffs around the lakes are popular with rock climbers. This is a wildlife corridor: stay on designated trails only.
From Canmore, take Spray Lakes Road (Highway 742) toward the Canmore Nordic Centre and follow the signs to the Grassi Lakes parking lot.

Spring to fall. The interpretive route closes in winter because water flowing over the trail turns to ice; in winter, use Grassi Lakes Upper.
This is a wildlife corridor: stay on designated trails, carry bear spray and check the Alberta Parks advisories before you go.
