A high-intensity route from Parque Natural Puente Ñilhue to the summit of Cerro Provincia, at 2,750 m. From the top you can see Cerro Tambor (2,875 m), Cerro San Ramón (3,250 m) and the Andes. It's 17.5 km return, 8 to 9 hours, with 1,738 m of elevation gain.
It requires previous trekking experience because of its length, altitude and intensity. Bring 3 litres of water per person; you can refill at the Canaleta de Agua, an hour from the park office. Camping is allowed at the summit dome, cleanly and responsibly (the ascent to camp must start by 1:00 pm).
Hours: the park opens on weekends and public holidays only, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Last entry to the summit route: 9:00 am. Park entry (online payment): CLP 3,450 adults; CLP 2,300 seniors over 60 and children 2 to 14. Recommended from age 12. No pets, drones or inadequate footwear.
Take Av. Las Condes to number 14,200 (service station, km 0), then the road to Farellones (Route G-21) to km 5.3, where a signed turn-off on the right leads to Cerro Provincia; then 1 km of dirt road to the park office. Parking is limited: don't block the road or residents' driveways. Register your entry and exit with the ranger.
On Saturdays, the Municipality of Lo Barnechea runs a free bus from Plaza San Enrique (up at 8:00 and 9:00 am; down at 1:00 and 3:00 pm). There's no direct public transport: from Pedro de Valdivia Metro, bus 411 to Plaza San Enrique, then a taxi or ride-hailing app.
