A climb to the summit of Cerro Manquehue, at 1,680 m, one of the best views of Santiago. It's 2.6 km to the top (about 5.2 km return), with about 500 m of elevation gain: around an hour and a half up at a normal pace and 50 minutes down. The trail is clearly marked and signed, with open, conservation and hazard areas.
For families there's the Manquehuito summit: 1.8 km up, about an hour and a half at a slow pace and an hour down, with little elevation gain except the final stretch.
The park (Parque RKF Manquehue, run by Outlife) opens Monday to Sunday, holidays included, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (spring and summer hours). Entry is free. Bring 2 to 2.5 litres of water per person, hiking shoes with good grip (some stretches are slippery), sunscreen and a snack. Park emergency phone: +56 9 6832 3225.
The entrance is on Vía Café, in Lo Curro (Vitacura). The old access via Vía Roja is closed. There's parking at the end of the street, which fills up quickly on weekends.

Check the park status before you go (at the top of this page): Outlife publishes it every day. In summer, start early to avoid the heat.
