The National Zoo is in the Parque Metropolitano, on the slope of Cerro San Cristóbal. Across 4.8 hectares it has over 700 animals of native and exotic species: condors, penguins, guanacos, big cats, giraffes and elephants, among others. It has a large walk-through aviary, a renovated reptile area (Reptilia), a screening room (Zoocine) and an amphitheatre with educational shows.
Hours: Tuesday to Sunday and public holidays, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; closed Mondays for maintenance.
Entry is free, but you must register in advance on the Parquemet booking system: capacity is 4,000 people a day and up to 7 per group. Show the QR code at the ticket office. Children under 14 must be with an adult.
The entrance is at Pío Nono 450 (Recoleta), near Baquedano Metro: go up the stairs or walkway beside the Funicular's base station.
