Quarry Lake is one of Canmore’s most scenic places to slow down and enjoy the mountains. It’s also a striking example of how the landscape has changed: this peaceful spot was an open-pit coal mine until the 1970s.

Bring a picnic, walk the short loop around the water, or take a swim if you’re ready for a cold plunge. You can arrive on foot, by bike, or by car, and there’s an off-leash dog park nearby. If you visit early or late in the day, you might spot elk. Give them plenty of space and enjoy the view from a distance.
