About this place
Quinta Normal began in 1841 as land for testing crops and is now one of Santiago's great parks, with century-old trees and a lagoon with pedal boats.
Inside the park are several museums: the National Museum of Natural History, the Railway Museum, Museo Artequín (in a pavilion brought from the 1889 Paris World's Fair) and the Science and Technology Museum. Across Matucana is the Museum of Memory. A walk of about 3 km, great with kids.
Getting there: Quinta Normal Metro station (Line 5), at the park's entrance on Avenida Matucana.
When to go: Year-round. On weekends the park fills with families; check each museum's hours, as they usually close one day a week.
Tips: Bring water in summer: the park is large and the sun is strong. As in any big-city center, keep your phone and wallet put away and wear your backpack in front in crowded areas.
