About this place
The palace was designed by Italian architect Joaquín Toesca in the late 18th century to mint coins, hence its name. Since the mid-19th century it has been the seat of the Presidency.
Two squares surround it: Plaza de la Constitución to the north and Plaza de la Ciudadanía to the south, beneath which lies the La Moneda Cultural Center. It's one of Santiago's most photographed buildings.
