La Chascona is the house Pablo Neruda built in 1953 in the Bellavista neighborhood, at the foot of Cerro San Cristóbal, for Matilde Urrutia. Its name recalls Matilde's mane of hair; she lived there until her death in 1985.
It was declared a Historic Monument in 1990. Today it's a house museum with the poet's collections, run by the Pablo Neruda Foundation.
