About this place
The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada designated Jasper National Park a Dark-Sky Preserve on March 26, 2011, after years of work by Parks Canada, residents and astronomy fans. According to Parks Canada it is the second largest Dark-Sky Preserve in the world.
To protect the night sky, older streetlights were replaced with downward-facing fixtures, and all new lighting must meet dark-sky guidelines. Outside town, any unlit lake or viewpoint works for stargazing.
