About this place
While wandering through downtown Canmore, visitors may come across Big Head, a striking bronze sculpture that makes for a memorable photo stop.
Created by artist Alan Henderson, the oversized head draws on the story behind Canmore’s name. The name comes from a town in Scotland and is associated with the Gaelic words for “great head” or “chief.” Its unexpected appearance on a downtown street has made it one of Canmore’s most recognizable landmarks.
Big Head also serves as a meeting spot, and locals occasionally dress it up for festivals and special occasions. Take a moment to look at its details, snap a photo and discover a playful piece of Canmore’s local character.
