About this place
An unexpected corner steps from the Alameda. The curving cobblestoned streets of París and Londres were laid out in the 1920s on land from the San Francisco convent, with European-style façades and an even height that gives them their postcard feel.
The walk starts at the Church of San Francisco, Santiago's oldest building, and loops through both streets. At Londres 38 there is a memorial site in a house used as a detention center during the dictatorship. About 1 km.
Getting there: Universidad de Chile Metro station (Line 1), a block from the Church of San Francisco. Santa Lucía station (Line 1) is also close.
When to go: Year-round, by day. It's short, so it pairs well with the historic center or Barrio Lastarria.
Tips: Londres 38 is a memorial site: visit quietly and respectfully. As in any big-city center, keep your phone and wallet put away and wear your backpack in front in crowded areas.
