About this place
Barrio Italia sits between Providencia and Ñuñoa. Its spine is Avenida Italia: six blocks, four in Providencia and two in Ñuñoa.
Its roots go back to the late 19th century, when Italian immigrants arrived and the area became strongly industrial. Today it's known as a design district: antique dealers and furniture restorers on Caupolicán street, craft workshops, murals, independent design shops, galleries, cafés and bakeries.
It's best explored on foot. Each shop keeps its own hours.
