Plaza Libertad de Prensa, Barrio Concha y Toro, Santiago

About this place

Two neighboring areas of western Santiago, part of the Yungay and Brasil heritage zone. Barrio Concha y Toro is a small set of curving early-20th-century streets and alleys, with houses in many styles around Plaza Libertad de Prensa and its fountain.

From there head north into Barrio Brasil: Avenida Brasil, Plaza Brasil and the neo-Gothic Basilica of El Salvador, plus old mansions, bars and restaurants. About 2 km.

Getting there: República Metro station (Line 1), a few blocks from Barrio Concha y Toro. To return from Plaza Brasil, Cumming station (Line 5).

When to go: Year-round, by day. Barrio Brasil has a lively bar scene in the evening and at night.

Tips: Barrio Concha y Toro is residential: keep the noise down. As in any big-city center, keep your phone and wallet put away and wear your backpack in front in crowded areas.
