About this place

A flat walk under the trees of Parque Forestal, from east to west. It starts at the German Fountain, near Plaza Baquedano, and follows the park's paths along the Mapocho River to the Palace of Fine Arts, home to the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Across from the museum begins the Bellas Artes neighborhood: streets such as José Miguel de la Barra, Merced and Monjitas, with early-20th-century buildings, cafés and galleries. About 2 km.

Getting there: Baquedano Metro station (Lines 1 and 5) to start at the German Fountain; the walk ends near Bellas Artes station (Line 5).

When to go: Year-round. In autumn (April and May) the park's plane trees turn yellow, and in spring the park is at its greenest.

Tips: The museums in the Palace of Fine Arts close on some days: check their hours. As in any big-city center, keep your phone and wallet put away and wear your backpack in front in crowded areas.
